Description
Decaris is an anthelminthic treatment. Its main ingredient is Levamisole and it is effective to treat parasitic worm infections, specifically ascariasis and hookworm infections. Some of the other uses include treatment of some skin infections.
Mechanism of Action
It causes depolarizing neuromuscular paralysis of the membrane of helminth muscles, blocks succinate dehydrogenase, inhibits fumarate dehydrogenase, disrupting the course of the bioenergetic processes of helminths. Thus, paralyzed nematodes escape from the body by the normal intestinal motility within 24 hours after taking Decaris.
Levamisole is a synthetic imidazothiazole derivative for treatment of worm infestations in both humans and animals. Thus, as an anthelmintic, it probably works by targeting the nematode nicotinergic acetylcholine receptor. Also, as an immunomodulator, it appears that Levamisole is an immunostimulant.

People with heavy whipworm infections can experience frequent, painful bowel movements that contain a mixture of mucus, water, and blood. Whipworms can cause bloody diarrhea. The diarrhea typically smells worse than usual.
How To Use
Decaris (Levamisole, LEV) is a long-established medicine included in the WHO’s List of Essential Medicines and widely used in some countries, at a dose of 150mg or 2.5mg/kg, for its activity against soil-transmitted helminths (Ascaris, hookworms)
As an anthelmintic for adults – 150 mg once in the evening, for children – at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg once in the evening.
As an immunostimulating agent, use at a dose of 150 mg/day – once or in 3 doses of 50 mg for 3 consecutive days every 2 weeks.
